I’m excited to present a new Vintage Crates mini-series! True-School Hip-Hop is undoubtedly my first music love. Without it, I probably never would’ve developed an interest in the wide range of music that preceded it which became used as breaks/samples. It focuses on the first years of recorded emcees (‘79-’82). The first episode in this series is devoted to obscure bangers.  Stay tuned for vol.2 soon!

This style cinema soundtrack has become a fast and all-consuming obsession here @ [astral projects], especially the work of Pierro Piccioni…very tight body of work. This is definitely more of a autumn vibe, cool out with this one.

If you’re into the true-school as much as I am, you know the name Mr.Magic. He was still doin’ his thing in the 90’s-early 2000’s when I was a teenager, introducing me to the previous generation. All through high school I would tape ‘the Oldschool Showcase’ off the radio and listen to it that week. This clip is very exciting  for reasons I won’t mention, but if you love hip-hop, and a certain film released in ‘82, you’ll get gassed as much as I did. Thanks Magic!
